Countertop materials we install
- Quartz: engineered, non-porous, and virtually maintenance-free. The most popular choice for our climate because it never needs sealing.
- Granite: natural stone with unique veining; durable and heat-resistant, resealed periodically.
- Butcher block: warm, workable wood surfaces, ideal for islands and Craftsman-style kitchens common in Milwaukie and Oregon City.
- Solid surface and laminate: budget-friendly options when the project calls for it.
What a countertop replacement involves
We template the exact shape of your cabinets, fabricate the slabs, disconnect and reconnect the sink and faucet, tear out the old surface, and set and seam the new tops on-site. A straightforward replacement is often a one-to-two-day install once the material is ready.
Countertops on their own are finish work and generally don't require a permit, but reconnecting plumbing is regulated, so if we're moving the sink or adding a fixture, we handle the permitting for that portion.
Cost and lead time
Countertop cost is driven mostly by material and square footage, with quartz and granite in a similar mid-range and exotic natural stone at the top. Most replacements are quoted as a fixed price once we've templated. Expect a week or two between template and install while the slabs are fabricated.
Frequently asked questions
- Quartz or granite: which is better here?
- For the Pacific Northwest, quartz is the low-maintenance winner: it's non-porous, never needs sealing, and shrugs off moisture. Granite is beautiful and heat-resistant but needs periodic resealing. It comes down to look and upkeep.
- Can you install new countertops without replacing my cabinets?
- Yes, as long as the existing cabinets are level and structurally sound, we can template and install new tops on them. We check the boxes first so the new surface sits right.
- Do I have to be without a sink for long?
- Only briefly. The sink is disconnected the morning of install and reconnected the same day once the tops are set and seamed.
